Steve Ebbs, Jason
Rhodes and Richard Gray, with the help of a great bunch of parents and a
brilliant bunch of boys decided to form Ockendon Rhinos in 2001 after
becoming disillusioned with the club they were then attached to.
Being an Ockendon based team, the club took that name and the Rhinos bit
comes from Steve Ebbs’ nickname when he used to play football.
It has and will always be the aim of the club to see the boys and girls
enjoy playing football whatever their ability, unlike a lot of football
clubs who will hold trials and only pick what they consider to be the best
players and discard the rest. At such a young age, this must be devastating
and Ockendon Rhinos takes as much pleasure from watching a player improve
through club coaching as it does by winning cups and league titles.
After a great first season, the team moved up to 11-a-side and, needing a
few more players, placed some adverts in the local press. Over the next
couple of weeks at training, the club found itself with over 70 players of
all ages wanting to join, so in two weeks Ockendon Rhinos went from a single
team to a club. With a fantastic sponsor in Richard Gray and his company
R.GRAY DRYLINING SYSTEMS LTD, the club are able to keep fees down to a
minimum which are believed to be one of the lowest in Essex.
The aim of Ockendon Rhinos over the coming years is to gain the Football
Association charter badge and to continue to grow. The club want to give
the kids from the local area something to do and to be proud of being
associated with a good, friendly football club.
Ockendon Rhino's
home ground is Belhus Country Park in Romford Road, Aveley.
MOST OF ALL, THE CLUB WANT
EVERYONE TO ENJOY PLAYING THE FANTASTIC GAME OF FOOTBALL.
